Word on the street is that the new Superman movie: Man of Steel will have scenes set in our very own Cordova, Alaska. Although it’s unclear what scenes are set here, many people think Cordova might have something to do with the Fortress of Solitude.
To be clear, there will be no film crews in Cordova. Although the scenes are set here, the filming will take place in Ucelet, British Columbia (in the Vancouver Islands) which is “dressed up” to look like Cordova complete with posters and such. According to a source,
“Our HERO finds himself on the shore of the Alaskan Fishing town of Cordova. He walks through town, passing many businesses that serve this coastal town. We are looking for MARITIME based brand advertising that would appear in this natural retail setting. Any advertising graphics including posters, decals or point-of-purchase display materials would add the layer of authenticity that we intend…”
Pretty exciting that they want to copy Cordova, but it sure would be cool if they actually came here. Other filming locations include Chicago (as Metropolis); Plano, Illinois (as Smallville); and some scenes are even rumored to be shot in Africa. I guess we’ll all see soon enough how “authentic” this faux Cordova is. Filming started two days ago, and the film is set to release in June 2013. Here are some photos of the cast on the set in fake “Cordova”.
